Introduction and History: It is similar to other Arums, it has a great and irritating effect on the mucous membranes and skin produces burning sensations. Caladium seems to lessen the desire for tobacco.

According to H. N. Martin: “Caladium is like Lycopodium, the patient wants to lie down always, opposite to Mercurius, better from sweat, better after a short sleep, opposite to Lachesis, sweat attracts flies”.

Genitals remain relax and perspire. The patient does not want to sleep and does not know why. Itching of vulva is also present with burning.

Habit and Habitat: It is available in South America.

Constitution and Physiognomy: It is ideal for persons of lax, phlegmatic temperament.

Seat of Action (Pharmacodynamics): it works on male genital organs, female genital organs, mind, ears, eyes, head, heart, lungs, kidneys, nose, skin, stomach, abdomen and sensorium.

Ailments From: Masturbation, Gonorrhea, Tobacco habit, poisoning.

Physio-pathological Changes (Pathology)

Characteristic Mental Symptoms (Psychology)

1. Patient is very careful about his health.
2. Patient is restless, cannot control himself after smoking.
3. He refuses to take medicine.
5. Nervous excitation; fear of catching a disease.
6. He fears of his own shadow.
7. Presence of foolish confidence in the patient.
8. Patient is nervous and desire for tobacco.

Characteristic Physical Guiding Symptoms

Sensitiveness: Patient is very sensitive to noise, slightest noise shocks from sleep.

Sweat: Sweet sweat attract flies.

Aversions: Has an aversion to motion, fear of movement.

Cravings: Intense desire for tobacco.

Eructations: Frequent belching of very little wind, as if the stomach were full of dry food.

Impotence: Relaxed penis, impotence with mental depression, sexual desire and excitements. There is an absence of erection even after caressing, no orgasm during an embrace and no emission.

Pruritus vaginae: Itching of the vagina which gives rise to orgasm, during pregnancy with mucoid discharges.

Fever: Patient falls asleep during the evening fever and wakes up when it stops.

Skin: Mosquito and insect bites burn and itch intensely.

Important Characteristic Features

Sexual sphere: There is a marked action on the genital organs along with itching of the region. It is one of the best medicines for itching of the vagina. Pruritus vulvae in women, at times due to thread worms finding their way to vagina, gives rise to masturbation and at times nymphomania.

There is a great disturbance in male sexual sphere, impotence despite having lustful thoughts. Nocturnal emissions are also present with nonsexual dreams or without dreams. Spermatorrhea is also present. Glans is flabby in nature due to masturbation; prepuce is drawn back, remains so because of the loss of contractility. Gets worse while sleeping, warmth from sexual excess, sudden noises, motion, get better after sweating, sleeping during the daytime, short nap and cold air.

General Modalities

Aggravation: From sexual excesses, sudden noise, motion, from tobacco smoking, on falling asleep, from warmth, aversion to cold water but bathing with cold water improves itching.

Amelioration: After sleeping during the daytime, after sweat, short nap, cold air.
